It seems the State and Federal Governments want to ignore the health needs of the eastern suburbs. Box Hill hospital services much of the Deakin Electorate and it is need of urgent redevelopment as it is now an old hospital and waiting lists are under severe stress.
The State Government promised to fund the redevelopment in 2006 and still there is no action to be seen. Clearly Mr Brumby was expecting to get Federal funding for the work. Yet this is a project ready to go and should have qualified for funding under the Rudd stimulus package but no such funding was forthcoming. While prime responsibility for this project rests with state, this is one occasion when it would have made sense for the Federal Government to step up to the plate with funding to get this much needed project off the ground.
We hear much from Labor politicians about how good they are, yet they seem incapable of getting this project started even when there is a Federal government throwing money around with gay abandon. There is no excuse for further delays. The State and Federal Governments need to get together and sort this issue out urgently.
